after reading about the problems of easy to maintain feeder that will not set off robbing, cause drownings, and not disturb the hive I thought of this

(the following web sites are for photo examples)

drill a hole in a super, plug hole w/ item 4608 (http://www.homebrewit.com/aisle/3040) drilled gum stopper then into the hole in the stopper put the nipple of Waterer Converter Kit (http://www.upco.com/waterer-converter-kit-bottle-not-included) you would need to mod the hanger but that should be easy. when feeding is done use a solid stopper to plug the hole. $7 apx cost (from local sources ie tractor supply, southern states, or agway for the waterer and a homebrew store for the stoppers) w/ the ability to check the level of the feeder from a distance or to replace the bottle w/o opening the hive all while having a both a large capacity and the syrup accessible only inside the hive

I use quart mason jars inverted in a whole cut in the hive top. The jar lid has pin sized holes. Works great. Easy to see the level. Easy to refill without disturbing the hive. A plug would be nice but I have not needed one. I just leave the empty jar on the hive all the time. They will propolis the holes if they don't want it.
