I'm shopping for a GPS system for my pickup. I like what Consumer Reports has to say about the Garmin 760, but of course some of the reviews aren't so positive. Anyone have a GPS in their vehicle that they would recommend?

A buddy of mine as a Garmin and loves it......
I see the 760 is selling pretty cheap now on ebay,
many new units between $200 and $250 or less.
I like the handheld Garmin eTrex Legend, more versatile.
Boat, car, and 4 wheeler.

I have the Garmin 760 and it's terrific as far as I'm concerned. It's really just pull it out and start using it...pretty user friendly.

I just replaced my Garmin 350 with the new Garmin Nuvi 850 and I love it. It is very fast to boot up and has sat access in seconds. It was a open the box and use it. It also has voice recognition. Not necessary, but fun to play with.

Thanks for the input.
I ordered the 760 from Wal-Mart online. They have them for $218 + tax and whatever extra you want to pay for faster shipping. Fortunately, I'm not enough of a gearhead to know the finer points, so the more I read the less it mattered.:) It looks like the 760 will suit my needs well.

You got a good deal, on a good unit. When the were
cutting edge they retailed for like $600 if I remember
right........

I've never owned one of the vehicle gps units but have had a magellan handheld ans a couple of garmin handhelds. I will vote for any of the garmins hands down.
simple to use and basicly idiot proof. (thats important for me)
If you get a handheld check out the sport of Geocaching, lots of fun and good exersize!
