What are pros and cons of each? We are talking an automatic knife uncapper. I have a hunch but want to keep my misinformed opinions to myself.

I haven't had an opportunity to try the chain uncapper I just bought. But if it works anything even slightly at all like the Maxant models... there is no way in the world I can knife both sides of a frame in 10 or 12 seconds.
Obvious con for the chain model- knife: <$100 or so vs. Chain uncapper: $2,395.00 + S&H
I would think the chain uncapper may cause some damage to woodenware if not adjusted properly and both will lend the user to need a comb for low spots that either one will miss.
Having only experience with knife and plane, I am also curious.

Chain. Fast, furious, 2 people operation, a bit messy
Cowen. Slower, 1 person can do it.
Selling my Gunness because of 2 people required.

I've been looking at both, going to go with the knife. Millions of tiny bits of wax with the chain. My simple filter method wouldn't work at all..:) Love my new Jacket.:applause:

That was my opinion of the chain uncapper. You have to deal with all of the tiny pieces of wax.
Glad you like your jacket.

If you have a large operation the chain is the
way to go. You can run a lot of frames through
those rascals. 3 across as fast as you can feed
the conveyor. Too fast for this hombre....
