I was wondering if at times you should take out all old comb and put in new foundation? I know it might sound crazy but thought it would not hurt to ask?!....thanks

Some people do it as a matter of practice every five years or so. I would think that it would be a good idea especially if you put chemicals in your hives. I would stagger the replacement though. Every other one type thing so as not to stress your bees too much or newer comb with honey that they can move up into during the winter and then pull the old brood box and replace the comb.

Most people with this goal in mind, rotate only 1/5 to 1/3 of the comb out every year. 1/5 seems to be the common number. Some never do. If you are using acaracides that build up in the wax, this becomes very important.

No cems just old ?I had a really bad year last year other than 38 out of 45 days were rain and more rain I am trying to fig out what if any thing cuold have made for such a bad year I harvested NO hunny.

Is there some sort of rule-of-thumb when it comes to comb replacement? I.e: Can you place a frame of foundation between frames of drawn comb?

Some of the oldest beekeeping books advocated comb replacement.
I think the Brits replace 10% minimum per year.
Or, replace all inferior combs.

That is the best way in my opinion. For me they will draw
it better between two nicely drawn combs.
