I am getting ready to purchase some plastic frames for spring. Are there any real advantages of one over another or am I just as well off going with the cheap ones? This is my 2nd year of beekeeping and my bees seemed to build fairly slow on the cheaper frames last year.

They seem to build slower on the plastic frames. The cheaper ones may have less wax on them? and this will slow them as well. You can always brush more wax on.

If the foundation doesn't have fairly high ridges at the cell boundaries, this will cause problems too, but i think most of the mainstream plastic foundation is probably good there. I had some small cell plastic foundation that was not so good that way.

IMO cell size is an issue and the only one the size I want is the Mann Lake PF120s (and PF100s) which also happen to be the cheapest.
