Where does the term "super" come from? We have deep super, medium super and shallow super. I know these refer to sizes but where does the term "super" come from?

I though the term actually came form the word "Surplus". Meaning Surplus of honey. could be wrong.

"Above: Over: Upon." sounds good too.

wiki makes refrence to it also (link above)

The word "super" is short for SUPERFLUOUS!
It means extra or over abundant.

Supercede, superscript, superheat, supercharge, supernatural, superhuman, supersonic, etc. etc.

I guess that's why the deeps are typically "hive bodies."

Super is the Latin word for above or over. We use it in many English words, but quite simply it's all the boxes above the brood nest. Super (the Latin preposition) actually comes from the Greek "huper" (written in English letters and pronounced "who pear") which gets changed into "hyper" because the Greek capital Upsilon looks like an English"Y". Maybe we should start a new trend and use the Greek. We could put "Hypers" on our hives.

Or...superstructure. I read somewhere that the word "super" is short for superstructure.
