This is an alternative way to control the suction on a honeybee vac like the one Kelly sells. http://go.netgrab.com/secure/kelleystore/asp/product.asp?product=246
Here is the background on how I came up with this idea. When my wife sews the beesuits, she uses an industrial surger that uses suction to cut the thread. The suction is created by using compressed air which I have a compressor in the house for this. The thread cutter uses quite a bit of compressed air so the compressor runs quite a bit. Thus lots of noise. I hooked up a shop vac to provide the suction and this works but is just as noisy. So I hooked up a light dimmer and I run the shop vac at a much lower speed and with a lot less noise. We can actually talk while she sews now.
This would be a good way to control the suction and noise at the same time. A lower noise level would allow you to communicate with a helper and not attract as much attention from the neighbors. It does cost more than a simple bypass which is the cost of a screw. The light dimmer runs about $8 new. If you have switch to the new light bulbs, you might have an old one on hand.;)
