Here downunder the smallest I can find locally is 1/4 inch wire mesh. For 1/8 woven mesh I have to pay $40 freight... plus (for 504 stainless) $69 a square metre...

What exactly is your hardware cloth? It is Wire mesh?

It's about the same here in US dollars. 1/4" or 4 mesh is common. 1/8" or 8 mesh less common but can be found in some areas. 5 and 7 mesh are a little harder to find even than 8 mesh. Any size can be ordered made out of about any kind of material. Stainless, Bronze or Copper are very expensive.

I just use galvanized wire for everything in the hives. It lasts well without any problems being in the hive environment where it's kept dry.

I've never bought stainless, but the galvanized here is .75 meter wide and costs about$5.00 per lineal meter.

Try Brushy Mountian, 121.00 for the same role.

Head to Bunnings Noelb, they have various types of flywire screen they sell by the meter. I bought some aluminium flywire to cover hive entrances for moving them. Don't remember the price, but not too bad.
Happy Christmas, I hope Santa brings you a nice pie floater amongst other things!
