Today I received my new beekeeping equipment in the mail from Brushy Mountain, hurray! I counted it all out and it's all there, seems to be in good shape. I'm going to have to put stuff together soon so I can be sure it all fits with the bodies I already have, but have not put together. This coming spring will be my first year with the bees, after a year and a half of reading and waiting.
Finally. :)

sentientsoil,
Welcome to your addiction! I remember when I was feeling like you are now, all my stuff and no bees available in the winter. :waiting: (Personally I knew everything cause I'd read a bunch of books and articles and got all the other answers they didn't cover from the folks here on Beesource!) Seems like just last year. Oh, yeah, it WAS just last year! :D
Bees came in late April and everything went great until they all flew away three days later. :pinch: I had the privilege of watching them boil out of the hive, swirl around above me and take off toward the river (ungrateful confounded bugs). Start to out of site in about 4 or 5 minutes. (Yeah, I tried to chase them down, but...)
Ordered some more and caught a swarm from a local feral hive. I read some more books and magazines, joined a beek club and now I really did know everything! (Until the mites hit one of my hives) Now I had mites, stubby wings on some bees. You get the picture. Well, more books, more articles, more Beesource. Treated mite hive with powdered sugar in Oct. Hope the mites took a hit, but it got too cold to open the hives by mid November.
Now my hives are buttoned up for the winter and guess what? I feel just like I did last winter. Now I'm reading more books, more articles, more Beesource. I've treated for a problem and I still have bees. You know what? I'm waiting for spring just like last year. :waiting: (with the exception that now I really know it all! NOT!!)
Good luck and hope to see you here on Beesource.

I still feel that way everytime that I see the big brown truck coming up the drive! I like going to the Dadant branch and walking through the warehouse, feels like a kid at Christmas!
Welcome to our addidtion! Nothing compares to it. All of the highs and lows that come with it. Like BuzzyBee said, be ready for all of the curves in the road but with all of the knowledge that you will find here, you will be fine!
Good luck,
Marc

Hi sentientsoil,
I'm in the same boat as you. Been reading about 2 years, & have all my gear ready to go.
Also I have contacted a local package supplier to line up my bee's.
Have Fun,
Dan
If you guys can afford it, it is a good idea to start with two hives. This doesn't fix every possible problem but if something hits only one hive there are ways of recovering.
