Sorry about the last thread, I guess it was a stupid question.
But I do have another....
Is there a difference in what sugar is used? Cane or beet?
Or doesn't it matter.
I just want to make sure I will be doing it right the first time.
God Bless

I prefer sugar cane to sugar beet as a source.
It also depends on which one is on sale.

I've always used Cane white granulated sugar and don't know if there is a difference really between the beet or cane sugars once they've been refined and packaged.

Which do they use to make powdered sugar?
I even feed mine maple sap in the early spring.
I don't think they know the difference in beet and cane sugar. They are both a substitute for nectar.

Cut a few slits in a maple tree near the hives in early spring and watch them cover it like a swarm has landed. I would say they do.
I cut the V's in the tree and drive a piece of copper tube in at the bottom. Then I hang a 2 litre bottle on the tube. Feed it in a boardman just like sugar water.
The bees will cover the slits on a warm day.

Cane sugar is the preferred sugar for bee feed.
Beet sugar is about the same for us - but is less pure. In other words, it has some impurities which can and will interfere with bee's gut functions, especialy in winter.

Yeah but............... if vanbeek goes slicing on maple trees in Lowell the sugar shack boys will be chasing him outta town with their shotguns!!! :lookout::)
Van, you best just stop by Meijers and get some sugar for the bees. Save the maple syrup for a big stack of flap jacks down at the Backwater Grill. :)
