Hi,
Sorry bother you with my question but I want your help.
Some years ago ( about 15) I read in beekeeping magazine an article about a beekeeper keeping his bees on the boat. As far I can remember he travel with his boat with hives on a river in France.
Thanks for help.

Hello George, good to hear from you. Have enjoyed your site although unfortunately my Romanian language skills are not good. I never heard of a beekeeper on a boat in France. However, I have heard that the Opera in Paris has had bee hives on its roof. As I understand it, a caretaker there was given some bees and he wanted to take them home after his duties at the Opera. Well, it seems that it never happened and hopefully they are still there. Maybe some day I will have the opportunity to confirm this story personally. Take care and have fun, Alex in Kentucky

howdy old friend... I have not seen you abouts in quite some time. nice to see that you are still messin' with 'the girls'.

a long time ago it was not totally uncommon for folks to keep bees on boats and or barges here. I am told (never seen this for myself) that in some of the prime topelo areas there are still some bee keepers that keep bees on barges in the topelo swamps. this might also limit problems with black bears in the same areas.

I believe I heard once that in fertile areas of the Nile delta the bees are kept on barges and they move the barges up and down with the crop blooms.

A google search of "nile barge beekeeping" brings quite a few results.

I don't get anything when I google "france barge beekeeping."

Take Care,
-Erin

I think I remember that A.I. Root had a terrible experience attempting to use barges to transport his bees for pollination. I believe it was in "ABC and XYZ of Bee Culture."
