>>>>The investigative report concludes that a family grudge wasn't the sole reason for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan but says it likely was a contributing factor.<<<<
So as long as their is a personal reason in existence, even tho business reasons still say act, a person should leave a person in the position. I would think the other reasons should be brought out in the open and see if they were enough to warrant the firing anyway.

The issue and crime, yes an Alaskan state law was
broken, was in the method and pressure exerted on
subordinates.
What is striking to me is all of the committee's 10
Republican's came to the same conclusion that Palin
broke the law and abused her power.

Well, they are probably a bit perterbed that she has been raining on their good ole boys network parade since she arrived.
And btw, is it true that the guy threatened to kill her father?
The trooper did indeed. Also tasered a kid.

The trooper did indeed. Also tasered a kid.
If that's the case, I can understand why, abuse of power or not. Women's maternal instincts to protect those they love really come out when threats are made.
The problem was that the Trooper's boss WOULDN'T fire the guy. So she had him fired. If there wasn't a family member involved it would be a non-issue.
Much ado about nothing.

Geeeshhhh. Come on guys. This was "outed" a long time ago, by the people investigating the whole thing. They were some people who already came to the conclusion before the investigation was even complete. They had the moronic intelligence to say they were hanging Sarah, and would make this an "October" surprise and even further their hateful position by suggesting that when they are through, the voters will regret having Sarah on the ticket. Does not sound like a fair investigation to me.
They are bunch of people who got their toes stepped on and had a bone to pick. Which tells me Sarah is the kind of person just right for the job. She does not go after just one side, and is willing to do what's right even if it may have negative overtones. Which is refreshing after the career politicians who stick their finger in the air and calculate how much it will hurt their re-election bid.
Stay informed! Read the second post in this thread. This was played out over a month ago and the outcome of the investigation was chosen long before they were done. It was based on pay-back.

It was headed by a republican... plus it was non partisan. No she clearly was wanting to get back at her ex- brother-in-law. When she couldn't get him fired she was mad and had him fired.
Even if what you think is true. She should have stepped out of that because of her family's involvement. Any smart person would have known to do that, unless they had a motive.
Some people can not handle power. They end up abusing it.

Eaglerock, either you have done your own investigation, bought into MSNBC, or are listening to an investigation panel that came to the conclusion they WANTED, long before it was complete. And you have no problem with that? I do not give validation to a panel that made agenda driven comments DURING the investigation and clearly made their position known.
If this is the best they could come up with....than I say "YOU GO GIRL"!
Eaglerock....have you commented about Obama’s shifty "friends"? How he got his walking money, his house, his vote by belonging to a hate filled church? Or is sarah's pressure on firing a bad cop the whole bag of beans. point is....we may not EVER get a perfect candidate without faults. I look at hers as positive faults while trying to do the right thing. Obama's faults (among many) sometimes border in befriending a traitor. Hmmmm.
Sarah wanted a bad cop fired. I would imagine that this sort of stuff in higher powers happens all the time. (Mrs. Clinton was famous for it. Had whole offices fired overnight.) But it was the investigation I find interesting.
And anyone who can step on toes and have her own party ticked off because she outed corruption and fraud along the way....is the right person for the job.
I could care less about a family squabble. The cop needed to be fired. They did not like Sarah and fought her on it. The "Blue Line" was drawn and they stuck by their own. She put pressure on someone to do what was right for the people of Alaska. And THEY love her for it.
Alaskan politicians don't like her.
Alaskan voters do like her.
Just who we need.

Lets compare.
Palin fires someone for insubordination which she has every right to do by Alaska State Law which is an At Will State so no justification or reason is required for dismissal.
Obama has a long term relationship with Bill Ayers who is a self proclaimed terrorist.
Obama has a 20 year association with his self proclaimed mentor and Reverend Wright who is a racist hate monger.
Obama provides millions in earmarks for Rezco the slum lord and convicted real estate criminal who he also conveniently purchased a house from at a reduced price along with additional property in a shady deal with Rezco and also recieved preferential treatment and mortgage rates as a result of the same shady association.
The latest is his connection to the defeated Kenyan Presidential Candidate named Odinga where Obama helped assisted him in organizing his campaign and instructed him on less than above board political strategies.....and there are copies of signed documents that show Odinga commmited to imposing Sharia Law soon after being elected in return for political support from the muslim community....Odinga since his defeat has also been implicated in inciting violence within Kenya which has been well covered by the media.
We are the company that we keep and Obama is a shady character with persistent connections to hate mongers and convicted/unconvicted criminals and terrorists.

Its funny that the Liberals defend the Scandels of their Political Elite by pointing to nonsense but should anyone on the other side make a comparison they are discounted and ignored.
There's nothing secret about the Kenya/Odinga connection....a simple google search will show you....even the BBC had an article confirming the connection the other day.
As to the Rev Wright connection....there's SO MUCH documentation on that that any refusal of the blatent connection is patently absurd.
Lets put scandel into perspective for a moment and look at the long and storied list of corruption and scandels from the Left which dwarfs the scandels on the right by orders of magniture in scope and frequency.

The cop needed to be fired.
.
You are basing this on what? Palin herself never stated he needed to be fired, she said they were moving the dept. in another direction. Whatever they means. I have worked for companies that change direction and their way of thinking, but they don't fire them.
Anyways, you believe what you will. No one in here will change your view, and that's ok. We never wanted to.
And BTW, I read it online. If you remember you posted after my post showing that. Also I have watched ABC, CBS, NBC and they all have said the same, if your FOX says anything other than that... so be it. We all know were they stand. However, I watch Fox as well, as you must watch MSNBC.

These conversations always devolve into a republican vs. democrat thing. In real life, it's not like that. Somehow, people read that into news stories, especially when they look for news they either like or hate. The cop was bad news. Someone needed to fire him. All of that is clear. I don't care who fired him, I'm glad he's gone. To me, that's the end of the story, although I'd take another chapter if they went after anyone that protected a bad cop in his role as a taxpayer funded public servant. Now, draw your own conclusions on Palin's motivations but let's PLEASE not decide that the underlying factor here is reflective of the party you vote for. It might be for some of use but not for all and the world truly does not go round and round with politics being the engine. Bees, maybe...but not politics. :D

Lets get the facts straight folks.
Public record shows that Trooper Wooten had been on trouble a number of times for illegally shooting moose, drinking beer in his patrol car and tazering a kid among other issues. His dismissal is unquestionably within her rights as an employer in the At Will State of Alaska
Palen is well within her right to order Wooten's dismissal and when Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan was dismissed by Palin for insubordination in his failure and refusal to dismiss Trooper Wooten his dismissal is also clearly justified.

Well said both Bjornbee and JPK1NH.
Let's look at the undisputed evidence:
The trooper threaten to kill the father of his ex-wife.
He tasered a minor, his ex-wife's son.
He was caught consuming alcohol in a state trooper car.
He broke the state wildlife laws.
If that does not constitute police misconduct, what does? Would anyone want this character patroling their neighborhood? There are plenty of decent law-abiding folks that would gladly replace him.
The state trooper's boss refused to fire the trooper. It would have been misconduct on the part of Palin if she had not fired the guy.
This whole "investigation'' episode simply illusrates the depths to which Democrat politicians, Palin-gored Republicans in Alaska, and the press will go to thwart the well being of common citizens.
It tells us that if we want real change we should not vote for any Democrat in November. They are the problem, not the solution.

Well you might be right, but what does that have to do with it. She never stated she had him fired for that. Hello.........
If she would have said that, then so be it. But she didn't. If you state that you filed your taxes, and yet you never mailed them. Then you didn't. You can't defend her having him fired for something she isn't stating or saying.

One of the reasons that Palin was chosen by the McCain Campaign to be Veep Candidate was because she didn't play partisan politics within her own party and has ousted entrenched corrupt politicians within her OWN PARTY...are you really surprised that they are out to get her? Take a look at the people that were on the board and what they stood to lose and why they may have held a grudge.....follow the money!

Highlights of the Palin Inquiry in Alaska

The loons have already gone off screaming down the road, but it's important to know the facts of the panel press release. From the AP article:
Headline: Panel: Gov. Palin abused power, but firing was legal
"Monegan's firing was lawful, the report found, but Palin let the family grudge influence her decision-making"
Ok, what was that "grudge"? Moneghan had refused to take action against Trooper Wooten. So what did Wooten do that annoyed the Governor?
"Wooten had been in hot water before Palin became governor over allegations that he illegally shot a moose, drank beer in a patrol car and used a Taser on his stepson. The Palins said they feared for their family's safety after Wooten made threats against them."
So before Palin was even Governor, Wooten was abusing his stepson, and so the threats he made against the Governor's family would reasonably be taken seriously. Can't really see why the democrats think this is unreasonable, actually.
So, the panel found she over-stepped authority. The loons are screaming for her arrest and jail. What could happen to Palin?
"Branchflower said Palin violated a statute of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Lawmakers don't have the authority to sanction her for such a violation, and they gave no indication they would take any action against her. Under Alaska law, it is up to the state's Personnel Board -- which is conducting its own investigation into the matter -- to decide whether Palin violated state law and, if so, must refer it to the Senate president for disciplinary action. Violations also carry a possible fine of up to $5,000."
So, the worst she faces is a fine, and right now there is nothing to indicate the board is inclined to punish her at all.
So, the left trumped up a case, and when they finally got something that kind of, sort of helped them they went screaming exaggerations and some outright lies down the road. In other words, normal leftist behavior. But it sure reminds us of how much they fear Palin.

She broke Alaska's ethic law.
Alaska is an "At Will" state.
According to state law she is not required to provide any justification for dismissal.
Go look up what it means to be an "At Will" state.
The politically appointed committee found her in violation of an ethics rule (in their OPINION) which they have no authority to charge for and the "CLAIM" was that in their not so unbiased opinion she allowed her personal feelings and circumstances to influence her decision to dismiss.
The bottom line is that they have no authority over this and its merely their (biased) OPINION.
This isn't even newsworthy.

Texas is a hire and fire at will state too. You can hire anyone or fire anyone at will, and employees can quit at will, with no notice, supposedly without reprisal.
ER, I think you may be confusing law with the concept of ethical. They sometimes, but not always go hand in hand.

At-will employment
At-will employment is a doctrine of American law that defines an employment relationship in which either party can break the relationship with no liability provided there was no express contract for a definite term governing the employment relationship and that the employer does not belong to a collective bargain (i.e. a union). Under this legal doctrine:
“ any hiring is presumed to be "at will"; that is, the employer is free to discharge individuals "for good cause, or bad cause, or no cause at all," and the employee is equally free to quit, strike, or otherwise cease work.[1] ”
Several exceptions to the doctrine exist, especially if unlawful discrimination is involved regarding the termination of an employee.
Since this reduces job security, it can create, in theory, an atmosphere of fear that may contribute to workplace bullying[citation needed]. As a means of downsizing, such as closing an unprofitable factory, a company may terminate employees en masse. However, there are legal limitations upon the employer's ability to terminate without reason.
Origins
The at-will rule has its genesis in a rule in Horace Gray Wood’s 1877 treatise on master-servant relations. Wood cited four U.S. cases as authority for his rule that when a hiring was indefinite, the burden of proof was on the servant to prove that an indefinite employment term was for one year.[2] In Toussaint v. Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Michigan, the Court noted that "Wood’s rule was quickly cited as authority for another proposition."[3]
Some courts saw the rule as requiring the employee to prove an express contract for a definite term in order to maintain an action based on termination of the employment.[4] Thus was born the U.S. at-will employment rule, which allowed discharge for no reason. This rule was adopted by all U.S. states. It was not until 1959 that the first judicial exception to the at-will rule was created.[5]
Since then, several common law and statutory exceptions to at-will employment have been created. However, in the majority of cases, the burden of proof remains upon the discharged employee. No U.S. state but Montana has chosen to statutorily modify the employment at-will rule.[6] In 1987, the Montana legislature passed the Wrongful Discharge from Employment Act (WDEA). The Montana Act is unique in that, although it purports to preserve the at-will concept in employment law, it also expressly enumerates the legal bases for a wrongful discharge action.[7] Under the WDEA, a discharge is wrongful only if: "it was in retaliation for the employee's refusal to violate public policy or for reporting a violation of public policy; the discharge was not for good cause and the employee had completed the employer's probationary period of employment; or the employer violated the express provisions of its own written personnel policy."
Public policy exceptions
Forty-two U.S. states and the District of Columbia recognize public policy as an exception to the at-will rule.[9] Under the public policy exception, an employer may not fire an employee if it would violate the state's public policy or a state or federal statute.
42 states have a public policy exception, thus 8 states do not. Those 8 states are:
Alabama
Florida
Georgia
Louisiana
Maine
Nebraska
New York
Rhode Island
The District of Columbia also has a public policy exception
Implied contract exceptions
Thirty-eight U.S. states also recognize an implied contract as an exception to at-will employment.[9] Under the implied contract exception, an employer may not fire an employee "when an implied contract is formed between an employer and employee, even though no express, written instrument regarding the employment relationship exists."[9] Proving the terms of an implied contract is often difficult, and the burden of proof is on the fired employee. Implied employment contracts are most often found when an employer's personnel policies or handbooks indicate that an employee will not be fired except for good cause or specify a process for firing. If the employer fires the employee in violation of an implied employment contract, the employer may be found liable for breach of contract.
37 US states have an implied-contract exception, thus 13 do not. Those 13 states are:
Delaware
Florida
Georgia
Indiana
Louisiana
Massachusetts
Missouri
Montana
North Carolina
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
Texas
Virginia
The implied-contract theory to circumvent at will employment must be treated with caution. In 2006, the Texas Supreme Court in Matagorda County Hospital District, Petitioner v Christine Burwell, Respondent,[11] held that a provision in an employee handbook stating that dismissal may be for cause, and requiring employee records to specify the reason for termination, did not modify an employee's at-will employment. The New York Court of Appeals, that state’s highest Court, also rejected the implied-contract theory to circumvent employment at will. In Anthony Lobosco, Appellant v New York Telephone Company/NYNEX, Respondent [12], the court restated the prevailing rule that an employee could not maintain an action for wrongful discharge where state law recognized neither the tort of wrongful discharge, nor exceptions for firings that violate public policy, and an employee explicit employee handbook disclaimer preserved the at-will employment relationship. A reading of these cases as well as cases from other states strongly suggests employers adopt an employee handbook policy manual with effective disclaimers in order to avoid to the greatest extent possible implied contact claims made by present and former employees.
Covenant of good faith and fair dealing exceptions (aka. "Implied-in-law" Contracts)
Only eleven U.S. states have recognized a breach of an implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing as an exception to at-will employment.[9][13] These 11 states are:
Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
California
Delaware
Idaho
Massachusetts
Montana
Nevada
Utah
Wyoming
This exception for a covenant of good faith and fair dealing represents the most significant departure from the traditional employment-at-will doctrine. Rather than narrowly prohibiting terminations based on public policy or an implied contract, this exception — at its broadest – reads a covenant of good faith and fair dealing into every employment relationship. It has been interpreted, by some courts, to mean either that employer personnel decisions are subject to a “just cause” standard or that terminations made in bad faith or motivated by malice are prohibited.
Statutory exceptions
Although all U.S. states have a number of statutory protections for employees, most wrongful termination suits brought under statutory causes of action use the federal anti-discrimination statutes which prohibit firing or refusing to hire an employee because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or handicap status. Other reasons an employer may not use to fire an at-will employee are:
for refusing to commit illegal acts – An employer is not permitted to fire an employee because the employee refuses to commit an act that is illegal.
family or medical leave – federal law permits most employees to take a leave of absence for specific family or medical problems. An employer is not permitted to fire an employee who takes family or medical leave for a reason outlined in the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Not following own termination procedures – often, the employee handbook or company policy outlines a procedure that must be followed before an employee is terminated. If the employer fires an employee without following this procedure, the employee may have a claim for wrongful termination.[14]
Examples of federal statutes include:
Equal Pay Act of 1963 (relating to discrimination on the basis of sex in payment of wages);
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (relating to discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin);
Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (relating to certain discrimination on the basis of age with respect to persons of at least 40 years of age);
Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (related to certain discrimination on the basis of handicap status);
Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (relating to certain discrimination on the basis of handicap status).
The National Labor Relations Act provided protection to members of labor unions, but this portion of the Act has been repealed.

Here are the At Will details specific to Alaska Law
And nowhere in there is there any indication that the Employer has any obligation to provide a reason for dismissal...only that it cannot be for illegal reasons (Descrimination, Medical Leave etc).
Palin ordered a subordinate Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan to dismiss Trooper Wooten. There is nothing illegal about this according to Alaska State Law.
When Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan refused to comply he was insubordinate...again...the firing of Monegan was ALSO not illegal.
This whole thing is a desperate action by the left and individuals in her own party that are threatened by her cleaning house.
articles.directorym.com/Employment_At_Will_Alaska-r936126-Alaska.html
Job applicants and new employees are often perplexed to read -- in a job application, employment contract, or employee handbook -- that they will be employed "at will." They are even more troubled when they find out exactly what this language means: An at-will employee can be fired at any time, for any reason (except for a few illegal reasons, spelled out below). If the employer decides to let you go, that's the end of your job -- and you have very limited legal rights to fight your termination.
If you are employed at will, your employer does not need good cause to fire you. In every state but Montana (which protects employees who have completed an initial "probationary period" from being fired without cause), employers are free to adopt at-will employment policies, and many of them have. In fact, unless your employer gives some clear indication that it will only fire employees for good cause, the law presumes that you are employed at will.
This article will help you figure out whether you're employed at will, what rights you have as an at-will employee, and what you should do if your prospective or current employer asks you to sign an at-will agreement.
Are You an At-Will Employee?
The law generally presumes that you are employed at will unless you can prove otherwise, usually through written documents relating to your employment or oral statements your employer has made.
Employment Documents
Many employers take pains to point out, in their written policies, applications, handbook, job evaluations, or other employment-related documents, that their employees work at will. If you are currently employed, look through your employment documents -- particularly those you have signed -- to see whether any of them mention at-will employment. If you have signed a document agreeing that you are an at-will employee, that's probably the end of the story.
If you have not signed an at-will agreement, check your employee manual or other written workplace policies -- do they state that you can be fired at any time? That you can be fired without cause? Even if your employer does not use the term "at will," statements that you can be fired without a good reason are indications that your employer follows an at-will policy.
On the other hand, some employers have written policies that require good cause to fire, provide an exclusive list of reasons for which employees can be fired, or otherwise provide employees some job protections. If your employer has adopted these kinds of policies, you are entitled to rely on them.
Statements by Your Employer
Has your employer made any statements, either during the hiring process or after, indicating that you will be fired only for good cause? For example, an employer might say, "You'll always have a home here as long as you do a good job," or "We never fire an employee who's performing well." In this situation, especially if the comments have been made repeatedly and/or were a big reason you took the job, your employer may not be able to fire you at will.
On the other hand, if you are told during the hiring process or afterwards that you will be an at-will employee, your employer will certainly rely on that statement as proof that it reserved the right to fire you for any reason, if you are terminated and take legal action against your employer.
Your Rights as an At-Will Employee
Even if you are an at-will employee, you still cannot be fired for reasons that are illegal under state and federal law. In these situations, the government has decided to make an exception to the general rule of at-will employment.
For example, if your employer is subject to federal and state laws prohibiting job discrimination (as all but the smallest employers are), you cannot be fired because of certain characteristics, such as your race, religion, or gender. . And you cannot be fired for exercising a variety of legal rights, including the right to take family and medical leave, to take leave to serve in the military, or to take time off work to vote or serve on a jury.
At-Will Agreements
To protect their right to fire at will, many employers ask job applicants and new employees to sign a written statement agreeing that they are (or will be) employed at will. Such a statement might appear in an employment application, an employment contract or offer letter that the employer asks you to sign and return, an acknowledgment form for an employee handbook, or elsewhere.
When You Should Sign at At-Will Agreement
Theoretically, you don't have to sign an at-will agreement -- but most courts have held that your employer can fire (or refuse to hire) you for failing to do so. For this reason, most applicants and employees simply grit their teeth and sign on the dotted line.
Even though you may not have much choice about signing an at-will agreement, that doesn't mean your employer will rely on it to fire you without a good reason. Savvy employers know that they have nothing to gain by firing employees arbitrarily. Instead, employers are often motivated to work through issues with you before resorting to such drastic measures.
When You Should Think Twice Before Signing an Agreement
Be wary of signing an at-will agreement if you relied on your employer's promises of continued employment when you decided to accept the job. For example, let's say that your employer promised, during the hiring process, that it would give you at least one year to learn your new job and that you would not be fired during that time. If that promise influenced your decision to take the job, you should not sign an at-will agreement contradicting the promise. Virtually every court will treat a signed at-will agreement as the final word on the subject, no matter what your employer said to you earlier.
If your employer wants you to sign an at-will agreement that seems to undercut its promises, ask about the discrepancy. If the employer stands by its earlier statements, ask that they be put in writing. If your employer refuses to honor its statements or changes its tune, it might be time to talk to a lawyer -- particularly if you quit another job on the basis of those broken promises.

You should have no illusions that these acts took place on their own time because they did not.
Additionally this whole disgusting event was a distraction during a critical point in time when Clinton SHOULD have been focused on tracking down what would become the 9/11 Terrorists and Bin Laden.
Clinton not only lied to the nation but broke numerous federal employment regs, ethics regs and was downright negligent in his failure to address a clear threat to the US.

a handy dandy list of republican scandals, 2006 edition
William Rivers Pitt presents thumbnail sketches of the various Republicans involved in various scandals, ranging from sending lewd emails to teenagers to scamming Ohio taxpayers. Pitt's short list excerpted below, for your convenience. And a short update is available here.
"Jack Abramoff: The disgraced "super-lobbyist" has been nailed for wire fraud, and is cooperating in the investigation into the bribing four Republican members of congress.
Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas): Once the most powerful man in the House of Representatives, Texas congressman DeLay now stands indicted on three counts of money laundering, charges stemming from his all-out attempt to secure a permanent Republican majority in the House. His story isn't finished; the Abramoff investigators have been sniffing around his door for months now.
Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio): Ney has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from Jack Abramoff. Ney pulled #4 out of the bag of GOP excuses above, announcing that he has entered a rehab clinic for alcohol addiction.
Tony Rudy: Once the deputy chief of staff for Tom DeLay, Rudy has pleaded guilty to bribing a Republican House member, said member widely assumed to be Bob Ney. Rudy also pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from Abramoff in return for favorable actions on Abramoff's behalf by his former boss.
Mike Scanlon: Another Republican lobbyist and former DeLay press secretary, Scanlon has pleaded guilty to stealing millions of dollars from Native American tribes, on whose behalf he was supposed to be lobbying Congress regarding casinos. Scanlon is also cooperating with federal investigators.
Rep. Randy Cunningham (R-Calif.): The California congressman has pleaded guilty to accepting $2.5 million in bribes, in exchange for steering federal contracts to a number of defense firms. Cunningham is currently staring down the barrel of eight years in prison.
Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.): There isn't much more to say about this fellow, who has joined Rep. Ney in the I'm-an-alcoholic-going-to-rehab club.
Rep. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.): Long considered to be little more than the mush-mouthed front man for Tom DeLay, Speaker of the House Hastert has found himself swept up in the Foley scandal. Several fellow congressmen have said that they warned Hastert about Foley's improper behavior, but nothing was done about it until the Foley emails went public. The watchword for today is "cover-up."
I. Lewis Libby: Cheney's former chief of staff, "Scooter" Libby, has been indicted on five counts of lying to investigators regarding the outing of deep-cover CIA agent Valerie Plame.
David Safavian: Once the head of the White House Office of Federal Procurement, Safavian has been convicted of four counts of lying to investigators regarding a bribe he took from Abramoff.
Claude Allen: Formerly a domestic policy advisor to the White House, Allen was arrested for shoplifting thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from various retail stores.
Brian Doyle: Formerly the Department of Homeland Security's deputy press secretary, Doyle was arrested for attempting to seduce a 14-year-old girl over the internet.
James Tobin: Tobin, who served as the northeast field director for the Republican Senate Campaign Committee, has been convicted on two counts of conspiracy stemming from a phone-jamming scheme in New Hampshire during the 2002 midterms. Tobin made dozens of phone calls during this time to the White House political affairs office. He was sentenced to ten months in prison.
Susan Ralston: An aide to White House political advisor Karl Rove, Ralston resigned recently after her multiple meetings with Jack Abramoff became public knowledge. Ralston was also in the habit of accepting gifts, such as tickets to sporting events, from the disgraced lobbyist.
Rep. John Doolittle (R-Calif.): Doolittle hasn't been convicted of anything yet, but has rolled out the "not a target" line regarding the investigation into Abramoff's bribery scheme.
Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.): Like Doolittle, Burns has deployed the "not a target" line regarding the Abramoff probe. He is, however, apparently a "target" of the probe, a fact that has his staffers splitting rhetorical hairs at warp speed.
Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz.): Rep. Dale Kildee, the only Democrat on the House Page Board, dropped an interesting brick the other day. While commenting on a conference call between page board members regarding "other allegations" beyond those directed at Rep. Foley, Kildee said, "It was about other allegations and I'd like to leave it at that. Let me just say, not about Mr. Foley." These "other allegations" appear to be augering towards Rep. Kolbe, who took two former pages on a camping trip several years ago. A federal investigation has been opened to look into the matter.
Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.): The senate majority leader is currently under investigation by the SEC for seemingly taking advantage of insider information to make a killing on stocks, the company attached to said stocks being owned by his family.
Lester Crawford: Once the Bush administration's FDA commissioner, Crawford has been charged in federal court for conflict of interest, and for making false statements related to his investments. He recently pleaded guilty to the charges.
Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.): The home of Weldon's daughter was raided by federal investigators on Monday. The investigators are looking hard at her lobbying firm, and whether her well-connected father improperly steered business her way. Weldon has pulled out #2 above, laying the whole thing off on a Democratic plot to destroy him.
Tom Noe: A four-star Republican fund-raiser in Ohio, Noe has just gone on trial for stealing millions from a fund for injured workers and spending it on himself."
Oh and keep in mind -- these are only Republicans charged with crimes or under investigation for crimes. The list doesn't included the REAL scandals. Deceiving the country into a stupid, disastrous was in Iraq. Tax cuts for the rich, followed by tax cuts for the rich, followed by tax cuts for the rich, while shredding out fiscal health. Torture. The end of habeas corpus. Ignoring climate change.

Sadly- I know there are many Democrats that have done as bad. Like I always say, it is the human nature, not the party they belong to. Temptation goes to the man/woman not the party.

Exactly my thoughts Eaglerock. Whenever we boil it down to a "party" thing, we paint everyone with the same brush. Every time someone claims that republicans or democrats are a certain way or do a certain thing, I can unfailingly find an example to prove them wrong. Sometimes I wonder if pointing an accusatory finger at a political party is nothing more than hating certain classes of people in a more civilized manner.

We are a stalwart and stouthearted people, and never more so than in hard times. People weep in the dark and arise in the morning and go to work. The waves crash on your nest egg and a chunk is swept away and you put your salami sandwich in the brown bag and get on the bus. In Philly, a woman earns $10.30/hour to care for a man brought down by cystic fibrosis. She bathes and dresses him in the morning, brings him meals, puts him to bed at night. It's hard work lifting him and she has suffered a painful hernia that, because she can't afford health insurance, she can't get fixed, but she still goes to work because he'd be helpless without her. There are a lot of people like her. I know because I'm related to some of them.
Low dishonesty and craven cynicism sometimes win the day but not inevitably. The attempt to link Barack Obama to an old radical in his neighborhood has desperation and deceit written all over it. Meanwhile, stunning acts of heroism stand out, such as the fidelity of military lawyers assigned to defend detainees at Guantanamo Bay -- uniformed officers faithful to their lawyerly duty to offer a vigorous defense even though it means exposing the injustice of military justice that is rigged for conviction and the mendacity of a commander in chief who commits war crimes. If your law school is looking for a name for its new library, instead of selling the honor to a fat cat alumnus, you should consider the names of Lt. Cmdr. Charles Swift, Lt. Col. Mark Bridges, Col. Steven David, Lt. Col. Sharon Shaffer, Lt. Cmdr. Philip Sundel and Maj. Michael Mori.
It was dishonest, cynical men who put forward a clueless young woman for national office, hoping to juice up the ticket, hoping she could skate through two months of chaperoned campaigning, but the truth emerges: The lady is talking freely about matters she has never thought about. The American people have an ear for B.S. They can tell when someone's mouth is moving and the clutch is not engaged. When she said, "One thing that Americans do at this time, also, though, is let's commit ourselves just every day, American people, Joe Six-Pack, hockey moms across the nation, I think we need to band together and say never again. Never will we be exploited and taken advantage of again by those who are managing our money and loaning us these dollars," people smelled gas.
Some Republicans adore her because they are pranksters at heart and love the consternation of grown-ups. The ne'er-do-well son of the old Republican family as president, the idea that you increase government revenue by cutting taxes, the idea that you cut social services and thereby drive the needy into the middle class, the idea that you overthrow a dictator with a show of force and achieve democracy at no cost to yourself -- one stink bomb after another, and now Governor Palin.
