I bought gas last nite payed $2.95 a gallon didnt think I would see a day when I was was glad to pay that for gas. guess it is better than $4.00 a gallon. The oil industries thinking has worked. Raise gas to $4.00 then drop to $3.00 the suckers will be glad to pay it. wonder if that would work for honey prices. we could raise it to $10.00 lb then drop back to $8.00

It isn't that here yet........... but I know what you mean.

Pretty sad when I bring gas cans with me to fill up when I
go out of town where it's only $3.49 instead of the local
gougers $3.79.

My heart would skip a beat at $2.99!!

A few weeks ago I filled up in VA for $3.59 then drove 16 hours straight to Michigan and paid $4.15. The economy in Michigan is bleek (at best), which means those that can afford it the least are paying the most....pretty sad!

I know what you mean Sundance. This morning I read that gas prices in NC are the highest in the continental US. It sounds like ND shares that distinction. You prices are the same as ours. :s

I remember that too, but the least I PAID was .32, and a pack of smokes was about the same as a gallon of gas. Come to think of it, (I don't buy cigarettes), aren't they still about the same?

I remember well when it first went over $1.00. Stations
had to double the price on the pump because they
couldn't do the math....... Wonder if that will happen
again when it hits $10.00 a gallon (and it will)

No, cigarettes, at least here in Texas are in the 3.50-5.00 range if you buy individual packs, and slightly less if you buy by the carton. Our state added a huge tax to cigarette sales in the last couple of years.

All the pumps were manufactured in cents a gallon they didnt have a space for the dollar amount. seen a lot of pumps that had a piece of tape with the dollar on it out to the side of cents

Don't be dating yourself now d'fly. 'Fess up. That's what your Daddy payed for it back in the good old days when there were Service Stations and cars didn't have washer fluid. So you had to fill up regularly so you could get your windshield cleaned.

The first gas station that I worked at in NC sold gas for 35 cents, if I remember correctly.

Same here, so when we would sneak out with the car we would disconnect the speedo cable. :shhhh: Then when the folks saw the gauge was down they would blame the neighbor kid for siphoning the gas from the tank. :D

The oil industries thinking has worked. Raise gas to $4.00 then drop to $3.00 the suckers will be glad to pay it

That has always been how prices are rasied. Back in the early 80's I was a Supermarket Manager and watched the Sugar prices hit the roof and when it came down, people were happy.

Then we watched in the 90's the Coffee prices go sky high and watched them bring the prices down and people were happy. But did it really go down? They made the 1lb can into 11.5 to 13 oz. cans... and 3 lb cans into 2.7 ozs. It was the same size can, just less coffee.

Having said that, I know why gas prices are going down. It is an election year. Every election year things happen. Roads are fixed, things needed- get done, and people will see that they did their jobs and vote them back in. :waiting:

So this year would be no different. Be reassured that gas will go back in the new year.

Yep you've got that right. Last week, Wednesday, my wife wanted me to fill her tank and it wasn't down to half yet. Told her to wait until the weekend and I will fill it then. Glad I did it went down to 3.19 9/10.

Wished I had waited until Monday, it went down 20 cents to 2.99. Amazing it can go this low and couldn't all year. Shows you they were raping the nation, for the almighty dollar. With their profits going through the roof and CEO's banking big bucks.

So, feeling this way, did you cut back on your driving? I bet not. So you must have enjoyed what you seem to be complaining about.

And now that the price of gas has gone down, are you driving more? Or less? If not less, what will you do if the price goes back up again? Gripe, but still drive as much?

So, riverrat and others,

How do falling gas prices = an election is near? You seem to be saying that because there is an election coming, politicians are somehow manipulating the markets (and all those big, bad, oil companies, whom they all rail against) into lowering prices to influence the electorate.
How do they manipulate all the other oil companies in the world not US owned or controlled into doing the same? Remember that US oil companies only have a small fraction of the world market.
And why haven't they manipulated the stock market at the same time to make everyone happy? Aren't they in bed with their Wall Street "cronies" as well?

here gasoline is a bit more expensive. sources tell me the price you quoted is the current level of price in houston and victoria (texas).

some folks memory is evidently so short that they don't recognize this trend which seems to repeat itself EXACTLY every four years. perhaps it is just a natural part of the business cycle? or perhaps some folks know that the american public has a little short span of attention???

evidently some folks don't seem to recognize (hope they ain't investing in anything I am investing in) the difference between financial instruments and product.

Price Chopper Supermarket has a deal. Everytime you buy something you get cents off/ gallon if you get gas at Sunoco. The longer you go, the more off you save. My wife gave me her PC card last week and I filled up the truck for 57 cents a gallon. They have a 20 gallon limit and you can use the card once, then have to start over, but it was nice paying $8.15 to fill the tank.
