to figure this out?

I don't know about you, but I grew up on Frosted Flakes, Sugar Pops, Honey Smacks, and others. They say right in their descriptive brand names that they contain sugar, most likely "unhealthy" amounts of sugar. Even Bart Simpson inhales "Sugar Buzz" or something like that every morning, and he has energy to burn. And we feed sugar to our bees in 100% form, and I don't see them complaining...

Kids need this jump start in the morning, as they don't usually take in coffee until they are in college, and need to cram for exams.

Okay, we are encumbered with huge increases in childhood obesity and early-onset diabetes, but I am of the opinion that these problems are more related to lack of exercise (video games replacing basketball) and other junk food (McDonalds) than a jolt of sugar in the morning. Take a walk in the evening (with your kids!) when the kids used to be out playing kickball until the sun set, and you know what I mean.

My mom kicked us out of the house - "get out and get some fresh air". Now, parents support inactivity on the ruse that letting them play outside is unsafe because of child abductions, which is a big media hot button issue, even though when children play in groups, statistics show that they are safe from predators.

What are your family's favorite cereals?

I grew up eating frosted flakes and rice krispies. Spent many a morning hearing the snap, crackle, pop while chuckling over The Far Side.

It's more likely the dietary FAT plus the inactivity that is causing childhood obesity. Fat has 9 calories per gram, sugar has 5. Our diet has increasingly become fattier, not sweeter.

You got that right! Can you say Quarter Pounder with Cheese (42g total fat)?

When you get into the fat analysis of cereals, you will undoubtedly ruffle some feathers, as granola and nut-based cereals will have sweeteners as well as higher fat content due to almonds (Oatmeal Crisp Crunchy Almond), peanut products (Reese's Puffs) and others (Banana Nut Crunch - a whopping 240 calories a serving!). Smart Start Healthy Heart cereals put out by Kelloggs is about 200-220cal/serving with more sugar per serving than Frosted Flakes.

Yep, or even a happy meal with burger and fries. I don't know the calorie count, but I would estimate it to be around 450-500 calories, plus the calories in the soft drink.
