hi everyone,
this story was pointed out to me:
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20081006/schanberg
in reading this, and looking around a bit, i'm thinking, "there are a small number of vets and famillies of pow's that think that much more should be done to recover anyone still alive, and to get information on others than mccain does".
...this above opinion isn't based on exhaustive research. i know there are many vets here...what do you think?

I honestly don't know what to think. I was in early high school when the war was ended, and wasn't really knowledgeable about any of it. I do have several Viet Nam vet friends, but among the ones I know, I've not heard much about this issue. Otoh, none of them were pow's, so it may be something they aren't focused on. If it's true, there could be several factors playing here. Yes, it could be a government failure on our part. It could also be that some of the pow's have become culturized to being over there. It could be that many of them were killed by their captors prior to the negotiations. It's really hard to say, and when you're dealing with decades of presidents going back to that time, it's very difficult to really ascertain the truth. I CAN tell you that nothing would surprise me, unfortunately.

MIA's have been talked about, looked for, movies made about since the war ended. Are they still alive???? The list is long no doubt. We may never know how many were held if any. There's been evidence to suggest there was. The Vietnamese government made claims there were, but were there? Or was it just a ploy to get something (money) out of our government? Were there cover ups? Could be??
There hasn't been much said about them in quite a few years. Only that they be kept in our hearts and minds. I imagine it's still a standing order in the military that they never be forgotten, and never given up on.
One would hope that after 34 years that most if not all investigations would have been thoroughly vetted by now. But I suppose this is the season for digging up or injecting new spins?
Whatever the case, God Bless our POW/MIA's!!!!!!!
