My truck busted a rod, and I need my truck! I have a couple handy buddies with all the tools and a shop, but I'm trying to figure out where is the best place to get a new engine (Chevy 350 longblock, TBI). If I can find the %@#$! block number, NAPA will give me a quote but they estimate $1400 to $2K. Anyplace online of course and I'll pay shipping to a freight dock.

I do like the truck, and yep I figure I'll keep it THAT long, so a couple to 3 grand will get this truck in better shape than a comparable used truck with resulting unknown quantities. I plan on replacing the water pump while we're in there.

Anyone know of a good place to find this common engine affordably? If it matters this is for a '92 GMC Sierra K2500.

Try Jasper: http://www.jasperengines.com/

I'd try your local machine shop. We have motors sitting around that people never paid for that we sell for what we've got in them.

I have built & run a lot of chevy small & big block. If you ask me go buy a factory crate long block. Just put on the sheet metal and keep the oil clean.

you should check on a long block from your local chevy dealer sometimes new engines are cheaper than some of the remanufactured ones.

Dealers are asking $2500 here.

Jasper Engines and Transmissions in Jasper, Ind. did deliver and pick up the core engine. I believe Jasper's quality is higher that GM's Mr. Good Wrench's. Most Jasper long blocks come with new tin ware, ask the sales rep. 'Course' you could always go with a short block, and rework your heads.

Have you considered just getting the engine rebuilt?
