$1.65 for a 4 lb. bag at the local Dollar General - Thats a little over $20 for 50 lbs. buying it by the bag. I would think someone would sell it cheaper than 18-20 bucks when you buy it in bulk?

I just reread the post and had to laugh, I bought quite a bit of sugar there several times, once an officer looked at me strange and then followed me all the way back to the beeyard. I never even thought about sugar being used in alcohol production being the reason he might have been following me.

It's all up. Diesel is so high. And it's all trucked and/or shipped in useing diesel.
Good thing bees don't eat corn. The deer I harvest this year will be worth their weight in gold.

Sugar is often a loss leader this time of year at most grocers. The best deals are usualy small, four pound bags. I paid $1.29 per four pound bag. That is $16.12+ per 50 pounds.

Last year, I went and bought about 30 five pound bags of sugar. I was told to pick up cat food also and usually buy several cases at a time. So I pull up to the checkout with nothing but sugar and cat food. the lady checking out in from of me said, "you must be doing some baking" as she looked at the sugar. I said "Naw.....Its amazing how good the cat food is when you put enough sugar on it". I think she thought I was serious. ;)
I bought 50 pound blocks of fondant delivered to my home for 32.50 by the pallet. This year the price is up to 38.50

You sure that isn't 1.99 Bjorn? .20 a lb is rock bottom wholesale! If that isn't a typo I'll be making a round to all their locations around ATL and cleaning their shelves!

I never go to Aldi. There is one close by. So I stopped today to see and 5# bag is 1.65. But there is no label so I do not know is it cane sugar or beet sugar crap.

I buy it around here at a place called C.O Nolt & son (bakery supply store), just outside Lancaster in a place called Smoketown. Its a product made by Dawn Foods. You can look up the Dawn foods website and see if there are any distributors near you. Or look and see if there are any bakery supply warehouses. Good Luck.

I just purchased 25# bag of Domino pure cane sugar for ~12 bucks at BJ. It was ~10 bucks couple weeks ago.

Around here the 10# bags are less/# than 25# bags are for some reason. The stores never seem to put 25# on sale, but 5 & 10's get reduced often. I was glad to see $4.29 / 10# bags this week and bought all they had. This is generic, name brands are much more/# yet. We don't have any wholesalers to buy from locally.

Prompted by the several messgaes in this thread, I checked the prices today. The ALBI near us sells 5 pounds/1.85$, ie 10 pounds/3.77 (once you include the tax). Walmart sells 5 pounds/2.30$ and Kroger 4 pounds/2.02$. So, ALBI is the cheaper, although it does not sell for 0.99/5 pounds.
