My 2nd hive is a BeeMax with Mann Lake PF 100s. The package of Italians was installed in mid May. They were slow to get going but seemed to have caught up by late June when I added another deep. I added a medium super 3rd week July after they had built out 6 frames in the top deep and 7 in the bottom. Since it poured rain for 3 weeks, I fed them 1:1 to help them build out the PF120s in the super.

Shortly after, I noticed a couple of supercedure cells, no eggs and lots of empty cells. The queen was still in residence. The ladies started bearding and ended up with at least 400-500 bees hanging outside the bottom entrance and both vent holes in the deeps. Many even stayed outside during the rain. Two weeks ago, I noticed they had finally built out the drone frame and had laid lots of eggs on it. Didn't see the original supercedure cells but did find 2 new ones.

Just came back from a 2 day trip and the hive is absolutely back to "normal"– no bearding, good activity, pretty relaxed looking. I'm thinking one of the cells produced a queen and she's returned after her mating flight. Should I open up the hive to check or should I leave it alone for another week? I'm still feeding and they're taking about a gal every 2 days.

Thanks for your help.
