We have a 2-1/2 year old lab who blew out her ACL. Keeping her calm so she can mend is a chore, to say the least. I was wondering if anyone has gone through this with their dog, and how did it turn out? Did the knee heal OK?
Thanks-
Derek

Wow. Sorry to hear that. Good dogs! So did she/he have ACL surgery. What did the vet say about recovery. You here all the time in sports that ACL surgery takes about a year to recover from. Just wondering about K9's time line.

My dog had his done. His other leg went as his first was healing. It was a tough year for old Max but he came through it ok.
We just brought our shepherd/pitbull home yesterday from her third surgery. Both kneecaps from back legs kept popping out. We let our vet (former vet now) do the first instead of going to the specialist, didn't give us a collar, dog chewed out the stitches, emergency vet trip, all that and ended up going to the specialist. Great guy, did fantastic job. Recovery was 6 weeks and thinks this one will be even shorter. We have two other dogs, one her littermate and a little dog (she's the pack leader) so it's difficult to keep them from playing. We're looking forward to a couple of months from now for things to settle down.

8-10 weeks. No running jumping etc. Although, even with the sedatives, she keeps trying to sneak out the back door. Plus, we have a new puppy who is definitely not helping keep things calm...
I just hope the repair works. The surgery was expensive-I sure don't want go through this three times. That sounds horrible!

Nice pic.........
I had to put down my black lab Raven (with me 12 years)
a bit over a year ago. He had hip dysplasia and it just
got too painful for him.
Hope the ACL works well.
how in the heck are you going to do it?lol My dogs wont stand for that taking it easy stuff! I hope it works out for your buddy. It isnt easy to see a dog down like that. I gave mine extra attention and they seemed to mellow out after getting fixed a few months ago but that's a long time in your case whew!!! Good luck, really!!!

Hope your dog heals! Who wounded her? Did she get into a fight?
I like the sleeping dogs picture which you posted. What kind of breed is lying next to your lab? Looks to have some spaniel in 'em.

No, no fight. I was throwing the ball for her like always when she came up lame. I guess this is common injury for Labs.
The puppy is a Red and White Irish Setter.
