Thanks Barry........ We were camping 2 weekends ago
near Itasca State Park in Minnesota and they happened
to have a "Gospel/Folk Family Fest" going on.

We sauntered over on Saturday night and listened to
some good music. No freaks were seen and a good
time was had by all.

As a country, I continue to believe in separation of
church and state and hope for a continued secular
society that is tolerant to all peoples, regardless of
their religion, or lack there of.

I agree. But, we must realize that aggressively pushing the "secular" and "moral relativism" often is perceived by the religiously committed as being anti-religion and intolerant of religion.

That door swings both ways. Being aggressive with any belief
either religious or political does little to advance your cause.
Tolerance is paramount.

I hope that someday our nation will be comfortable electing
an Atheist, or a Muslim. Many incorrectly ascribe morality
to religion.

Shouldn't it be "Christian Faith is not a Freak Show"?

It seems to me that that is the litmus test of electability, Christian Faith. If McCain were Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or Unitarian Universalist he would be unelectable in todays modern American society. Then again, he may not be "Christian" enough.

That is exactly what is going on. Too often it is supposed to be
understood that faith = Christian. As if other faiths are illegitimate.

And as far as the religious right "perceiving" secularism as being
anti-faith.......... The just need to look deeper into themselves
and use the understanding their religion often espouses.
