I went through my hive yesterday and took some pics. I have uploaded them on Flikr, they are large so you can zoom in if you want.
There is a bee iwth a red dot. Is this a mite? (next to black bee on lower right) Another has white spots, is this a problem or just sugar? I managed to get the queens pic, any idea what type she is? Carni, Italian, etc? Given how much sugar water they are trying to store should I switch to 2:1. THere is still a lot of frames with little stored but they would have to draw comb and or clean them out.
Thanks in advance!

Yup...looks like a mite to me. Don't know about the white stuff but it doesn't look like a problem. I would guess Italian bees. I wouldn't switch to 2:1 until later but it's up to you. The bees probably won't care either way. Lots of people use 2:1 all the time.

So after looking closely if I only see one or two mights does that mean that I at least don't have a voaro (sp?) problem. Obviously I could have a tracheal mite problem still.

I wouldn't depend on counting visible mites. The problem mites (actually, they're ALL problems) are the ones in the cells. Plus, for every mite you see, you miss a bunch. Do a sugar roll or drop count. The key is not so much how many you find the first time you count, but whether you counts are going up and how fast over a period of time. Your bees look pretty good to me but diagnosing a picture isn't the best way to figure out the health of a hive!
