When i was inspecting the hives the other day, i noticed the queen started laying Drone cells, regular females and what looked to be the start of some queen cells along the bottom of the super frames... Is this something to worry about at the moment? Or will it run its course and they will eventually fill the space on the bottom in with honey? They rest of the supers above this were doing quite well... I have never needed to use queen excluders in the past. thanks for any help.

Not sure I understand what you mean by the queen is laying Drone cells, but queen cells on the bottom of the frame usually means swarm cells.

It sounds like your queen is being crowded out of the brood hives and needs more room. I would throw in a super with empty frames ASAP right above the hive under your honey supers. Scrape the swarm cells off...heck, just pull the whole frame with drone and swam cells. Freeze it and put it back in one of the upper supers.

By bottom i mean the are still ON the frame itself. There were larger ones hanging off the bottom of the frame as well.

i have some empty frames or ones with drawn out comb from last year... which would be better?

Is the brood in just the bottom of the first super?

Sometimes you will have a queen that really likes to climb. I have a queen in one hive that insists on laying in the honey supers. I've used plastic queen excluders before, but got a metal one. Well, I put that on and checked last night and somehow she got past the QE and laid in the supers again. I won't be using that QE again! The girls also took most of the honey from one super down to the brood nest.
