I seem to hear more city keepers having more beetles than country folk.(not scientific) Anyway a fellow keeper/haver here nearby in the city has been hit twice this year by beetles where I have only seen a few.
Wonder if it could be the difference in preditors (bats, birds, etc.) ,Maybe it is the city with all those chemicals they spray for bugs and such, maybe it's feeding them and mutating them some how into super beetles.
It seems like every new invention works great for a while until your busy or just can't afford to keep it up anymore, and then the beetles are back. Anyone know of a perminent treatment for them yet? Yes I know strong,in the sun and with traps seems to work great. Some even use other treatments that are not ment for beekeeping or just good old fashion homebrew cures.
Good luck!
