I moved a 5 frame nuc into 10 frame equipment about a week ago and now they look like this. They are on a SBB and the migratory top is propped up about 1/2".

Here is some pictures of the rest of the hives in the apiary. Don't know what the deal is. Is this normal bearding or am I in trouble? It has been around 90 degrees in the shade with 78% humidity.

Thank you in advance for the help!

I've never seen bearding cover the entire hive, but I don't know if it's normal or not. They may not have room, that's what comes to mind. I'd put a super on.

With that kind of weather it's probably normal. It looks like you have to many bees for the hive, I'd add a med. to it, and that'll give 'em more room.

I agree, looks like they need more room.

Did you put the new 10 frame box where the old nuc was?

How much has the population increased in the week? Was the nuc busting full of bees?

Are you feeding these bees?

If you are not feeding only this hive and this was the location of the original nuc then I agree with everyone else, just give them more room and let them have at it.

If all of these bees are new bees from the original colony then I need to get me a queen from your stock, she is sure doing her job great.

"I moved a 5 frame nuc into 10 frame equipment"

I don't think it is room they need as they just got 5 more frames.

I have seen my one hive doing this, I done nothing and they are just dandy.

BUT I DON'T NO WHAT I AM DOING SO WAIT FOR SOME EXPERT ADVISE OK:}:}

I face my rows back to back, so that as you work one row from the back you
are not standing in th flight path of a row facing your back.

Thanks for the replies...

Most of the small stacked hives were splits I made from one hive this spring that was preparing to swarm. Each was given a couple frames and swarm cells. Believe it or not, the tallest stacked hive is the one they came from. I really wanted some offspring from the queen because she was working like a banshee. Guess I got my wish.

A few of the hives pictured that are bearding have empty super. THe main hive in question that was originally in a 5 frame nuc was busting at the seams when I moved it into the 10 frame equipment.

We've had really hot humid weather up here in Maine, and all of my colonies have been doing this. I have a sneaking suspicion that the weather has something to do with it. Include the fact that we are in the "dearth" and there are many more bees kicking around the house than usual. I think they're hanging out on the front porch cause it's just so hot in there! Or maybe even humid...

One of my hives had a ventilated inner cover and the top was propped open 1/4 inch and they were still covering the front of the hive...
