has any one done atick are eav cut out and noticed the cone formation. isee the direction it is in.always 2 directions first 3 or4 rows horz. of interents then they run vert. then horz. agin the centers one is we the most brewed is.i am going to try this and see how bees reactrmhcattle@hotmail.com

As a normal rule, I find them with the entrance at the end of the comb, with the honey nearest the entrance and the brood farther away from the entrance. There will always be exceptions in everything the bees do.

yes that is what i find. iam thinking that if i seat a hive up this way it would be more to the liking and better production in the brood chambers
I have seen them draw comb in just about every orientation. I see parallel to the entrance, 90 degrees to the entrance, and angled to the entrance. I don't think it makes a hive more productive necessarily. It's not uncommon to set up a Lang type hive with the entrance on the long side instead of the short side. It's a bit more convenient to work a hive this way. I find myself inching around to the side of the hive at time to make pulling frames easier. This solves that problem. It does take more feet of stand space however.
