in checking my hives today, I noticed a good amount of purple pollen. I saw it in the comb first and thought that the normal yellow/orange stuff was mildewing or molding. Anyway, I saw some bees bringing it in and realized it is purple pollen. Anybody know what it's from? Just curious.

Red Stemmed Filaree, an invasive weed species that grows just about everywhere. Also known as Storksbill. It is a relative of Geranium. This is where my bees get bluish-purple pollen. Around here it blooms beginning in late Winter and continuing until the Summer heat burns it out. It is more ubiquitous, especially after heavy Winter rains.
