Went out to my hive today and found clear large salt-like looking crystals under the hive. I only have one hive but there bust be al least 1/4 of a cup of these crystals.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

The only thing I could think of is that they may be removing crystalized honey.

Thanks, I'll try to take a picture and post it. I was tempted to taste it but... thought better.

Any chance you're using Thymol or a product like Apiguard that contains Thymol? Menthol crystals, perhaps?

Ya, don't taste it unless you know for sure what it is.

I have a polystyrene hive that had "little white things" around the base of the hive. Turned out to be nasty black carpenter ants.

Do you have any New Age neighbors?

It could be pieces of wax, too.

Are they hard? cause if your hive is being robbed by another hive there will be alot of wax cappings on the ground.
