I'm trying to jump-start a nuc and a weak hive (TBH demolished by bear) so I put out some syrup last Friday. They have not touched it for four days. (I thought the syrup must have gone sour by then.) I opened both to see if everything was all right. It seemed so. (Lots of fresh and capped brood, no drone brood at all, very little stores... but the bees seemed happy.) As soon as I closed the hives they started feeding in a frenzy. I'm not exaggerating. They were tripping over each other. THe TBH finished about 1.5 to 2 gallons in three days. (and this is still a recovering hive.) What's up with that?
