I took away a feeder from one of my hives after the little guys built up tons of comb up underneath it (hivetop feeder). I pu the feeder in my garage. Staye dthere for a day. I cut the grass two fdays later and had the garage open. boy did they find it! I had 1000 bees in my garage!

I took everything outside and they followed. closed the garage, waited till night then stole it back. broke off all the comb, cleaned it out and bagged it in the basement. this was last night.

Today, i opened the garage, and 100 bees come rushing in looking for it!

I cleaned up pretty good, eventually they all left and havent been back.

I gave them a division board feeder and filled it up, they are happy.

So is my wife and kids too!

It sounds like you learned a good lesson.

The way I see it, the more mistakes I make in beekeeping the more I learn. I think the most experienced beekeepers have their mistakes to thank:)

I use my garage for my "honey house". I had four stacks of supers sitting in it last week with fans blowing over them, waiting for a day when I could extract them. I have an "automatic" door opener. I came out of the garage and thought I closed it and walked away. I came back by about 3 hours later and my garage was full of bees. I closed it up and opend it again at dusk. A bunch left, but certainly not all of them.

I will usually leave an empty feeder in the bee yard after I remove it and allow them to clean it then wash it out and allow it to dry before storing them.
