 Ewww! Opened hive to refill division feeder with sugar water and saw larvae squiggling around in the sugar water. I've seen a couple of SHB and think perhaps it's their larvae. I killed as many larvae as possible but what should I do to prevent them? Few drops of bleach in sugar water?
I'm trying corrugated DE trap for the SHB mentioned in an earlier post. Just put it in yesterday so don't know if it works yet. I've put DE on the ground around hive too. I have a SBB and Screened inner cover.
Hive in sun from late morning til mid afternoon since trees are now leafing out.
This is a new hive from package about 5 weeks old on new Plasticell foundation. Everything else is going well with the comb being drawn, Carni queen laying, brood hatching, lots of pollen and honey (some already capped). Heavy activity everyday. I just put a super on yesterday since only 2 outer frames left, which I may shift inward if they don't draw them out in the next couple of weeks. Everyone seems happy except for me after seeing those darn SHB. Those little buggers better run fast cause my hive tool has got their names written all over it! ;)
