morning yall,

1, can bees sting through those ruber surgical gloves? what about the heaver kitchen cleaning gloves?

2, what are the "actual" hights of the deeps & med boxes suposta be?? because the new wood is getting smaller and looks like its crowding the bees.

3,will they work the "outside" two frames in the brood boxes? mine seem to be working all but the outside2 then they are moving up into the next box,

thanks

They can sting through surgical gloves if you pinch them, ask me how I NO

9 5/8" = deep, 6 5/8" = Med

I move drawn frames to the out side

I've never tried using regular latex gloves, but have some of the heavy-duty latex coated beekeeping gloves and they are excellent. A little stiff at first, but after they get broken in, they are wonderful. My hive is rather temperamental, and very prone to stinging. If I have to really get into the hive (as I did this morning), I wear them, no questions asked. I highly recommend those gloves if you are working hot bees.

My bees have done the same thing since I started beekeeping. The two outside frames are usually all but empty. I don't worry about it because I figure bees have their own reasons for doing the things they do ;)

They always leave the outside frames. I was astonished when I picked up some 8 frame hives and started packages on foundation. They drew out comb from wall to wall. Lesson learned.: the brood chamber the bees create is a different size and shape from what we beeks envision. All these years and they haven't conformed to what we want. It's hard to believe that they would give up their cell size very easily.
Did a cutout the other day of a big nest. The first 2 combs were unused. Go figure.
