i seen on a couple beek sites where they are using a propane foger to "smoke" there bees, what do the use for fluid in the foger??? i would bet it all that they arent using bug spray :) just wondering... i had the thought that if you went to a "cut out" that this would be safer to use in or around a house or barn, and put out more smoke to calm a big hive.. thanks

PS: my new nuke is doing good. you can go look at the girls and fumble things around in a tee shirt and they wont bother ya :)

FGMO Fogging for V-Mites and T-Mites is what we use a Propane Fogger (Smoker) for. Food Grade Mineral Oil is put into the (never used with insecticide) Fogger. Its atomized (Fogged) and blown into the Hive where it coats the Bees with a super fine oil film. The V-Mites can't hold on to the Bees and are more easily groomed off by the Bees and fall through the SBB (Screened Bottom Board). The Bees take in a portion of the fog into there tracheas where the T-Mites are coated with the oil and killed.

Some use a few drops of aromatic oil (Tea Oil is our choice) in with the FGMO. It kills the mites on contact and does not hurt the Bees.

The first time we used it the mite drop on the SBB White Lightly Greased Insert was amazing.

Would you beekeepers that use a propane fogger post some links them? It seems that they would be much easier to use than the 12 Volt ones I've seen.

Yeah, I saw that there were lots of different ones available. It appears that the bore of most of them are rather large. I'd think that a narrow stream of smoke would be better steered into the entrance. The Black Flag one looks like it would have the tightest pattern.

The fog on mine comes out a hole in a small tube that extends out from the flame shield (Bore you called it) about 2in that is just right to place up to the hive entrance. About 10 - 15 seconds is all it takes and the mites drop like flies.:)
Dead mites = good mites.:)
Its the yellow Black Flag model.

I use the bonide brand. It does a nice job and I have never had a flare up, or ever heard of any one having one. I also add 50 grams of thymol to each quart of fgmo. You can find a lot of info if you search for fogging under the disease and peat forum.
