I have a couple of long hives

they currently have frames in them but when the rain stops I'm going to make splits off both and replace the stolen frames with topbars

There's a small cluster of us in Moore county,
feeling our way along.
How about a field day?

Thanks for the invite, BR549 - Moore Co. is a bit west of my normal stomping grounds, but if I get adventurous and head over your way I'll get in contact with you.

Hi:
I am just finishing up the building of 2 top bar hives, and just registered to this forum due to the fact that the more information I can garner the better I am going to feel about this.:)
Just finished almost a year of studying honey bee raising with my local bee chapter; ToeCane Beekeepers, in Yancey County, NC (Burnsville) and most of the members do the traditional bee keeping with the Langstroth hives. However, after studying with them and doing some research *I am not looking into doing a business, just a hobby* I decided to do the gentler approach and one that does not involve lifting boxes of honey comb.
During the past year I have been surfing the many websites on beekeeping and using the TBH and I got saturated with lots of info; then I ventured into downloading a few building designs from many websites, all with various features and designs. I incorporated a little from each and I will hope to see what happens. That's the beauty of TBH and bees, no rules just inspiration and creativity.
As soon as I have finished them, I will attempt to take some photos and link them.
I know I am in the western division of North Carolina, but thought I would let you know someone else in your state is gonna attempt doing TBH bee keeping.
Warm smiles, :)

mountainlady,
I do head to Western NC on occasion to visit friends and with my work - if I head towards Yancey county I'll give you a shout beforehand.
As Dave said, please keep sharing what you know.
