I have a nuc that did not make it through the winter that is full of open brood frames that I want to use in another hive. Trouble is there is a slight mold smell and small patches of white fuzzy mold. Is there any way to clean this up to use again?

thanks jay burgess capecod ma

Jay, I lost a NUC this past fall and noticed some mold starting on a couple of the frames (the same type mold that you explained) and I tried some Bt aizawai and sprayed it on my frames as a way stop wax moths after the mold started and I put the box of frames under a hot air vent for a few weeks and that seemed to arrest it.

Now that I think about it....when I first noticed the mold I stuck the hive outside in 10 degree weather for a few days...I think that may have stopped the mold to start.

Mold needs moisture and my thoughts were to eliminate the moisture with the hot air vent...for what it's worth...

Another observation...the frames I sprayed with BT have no mold on them...however these are in a low moisture storage area.

Yes. Give it to the bees. They will make it spotless.
