Spring!
the beautiful Spring is coming,
The Sun shines bright and
the bees are humming.

-Mary Howitt, English poet (1799-1888)

Ran across this today. Doesn't seem very spring-like here, though, what with the snow and all.

SPRING

(From One of the Annuals)

Spring, where are you tarrying now.
Why are you so long unfelt?
Winter went a mouth ago,
When the snow began to melt.

I am coming, little maiden,
With the pleasant sunshine laden;
With the honey for the bee,
With the blossom, for the tree,
With the flower and with the leaf;
`Till I come the time is brief.

I am coming, I am coming!
Hark! the little bee is humming;
See, the lark is soaring high
In the bright and sunny sky;
And the gnats are on the wing--
Little maiden—now is spring!

See, the yellow catkins cover
All the slender willows over;
And on mossy banks so green
Starlike primroses are seen;
And their clustering leaves below
White and purple violets blow.

Hark' the little Iambs are bleating;
And the cawing rooks are meeting
In the elms, a noisy crowd;
And all the birds are singing loud;
And the first white butterfly
In the sun goes flitting by.

Little maiden, look around thee!
Green and flowery fields surround thee,
Every little stream is bright;
All the orchard trees are white;
And each small and waving shoot
Has for thee sweet flower of fruit.

Turn thy eyes to earth and heaven!
God for thee the spring has given;
Taught the birds their melodies;
Cloth'd the earth and cleared the skies:
For thy pleasure or thy food—
Pour thy soul in gratitude;
So may'st thou `midst blessings dwell,
Little maiden, fare thee well!

Indoors or out,
no one relaxes in March,
that month of wind and taxes,
the wind will presently disappear,
the taxes last us all the year.

So many beautiful words and visions to describe the coming of Spring! [sorry for the capital letter @exclamation point]

We should really have a special section for the,........literature,...poetry,. and,.................. "romance" of beekeeping and honey bees!

Maybe we need a section for our own written works. That might be fun :) Does it have to be about bees, though?

Ok. Here is my quick/meager contribution.

A seed is but a honey bee,..............on the wing.

I love to write, but my only worthwhile stuff is written when I'm in a real emotional funk, so it's not sweet and Spring-like. To me, Spring is for gardening. Writing is reserved for cool rainy winter days.

naturebee - I like that poem! Good website, too.

oldbee - your poem is almost a haiku! I like it.
I sometimes write (for my eyes only!). I'm hoping my talents lie elsewhere...

I like this one. It is simple, easy to read, and yet, it delivers a powerful message.

Spring's Magic

March is;
mud,
mops,
measles,
cough drops,
snow,
sleet,
sniffles,
wet feet,
soggy woolens,
leaden skies,
no glad sights for tired eyes
Then!
Everything comes to focus
With a crocus.
