I opened my hive today and yes I have critters other than bees this didn't really suprise me. But I would really like to treat this hive without going to the extremes Is there something other than powdered sugar that I can use. I live some distance from them and need to treat them as simply as possible but don't want to use chemicals that will stay with the hive after treatment. The hive looked very strong, big cluster and lots of stores left. I would really regret after wintering over so well the bugs get them.

you might wish to consider vaporized OA.
what made you suspect varroa?

I had the plastic insert on the bottom of my sbb and they were scattered in the debri that fell through. The only reason I checked the insert was because there was claw and teeth marks on it and it was pulled out about two to three inches. My freind told me he thought there had been a coon around there so he set a cage trap out and caught a really big skunk instead. I keep the ground cleaned up very well so that you can see tracks around the hive and no new tracks have showed up. Glad he got the skunk instead of me. He laughs about it now but says it sure didn't seem so funny then. :D

You can use the thymol products or the Mite-Away 11's.
