From the stories I have read, They are starting a "campaign" (even NPR stated this) where they will collect donations and give a check in the name of Hagaan Daz. Nowhere have I read, and the NPR site above does not back it up, that Hagaan Daz is reaching in their own pocket in any way to "Give" as suggested.

Don't get me wrong, its a good thing when ANY publicity or P.R. can be generated toward helping the bee industry. But lets keep it in perspective. They are using it to their advantage also, marketing, promoting, and benefiting from the crisis in the bee industry. Surprises me it took them this long how to figure out how to take advantage of the situation. Its only been what, a year and a half now.

How about this.....Did any of the people who were so willing to lobby, beg, and eventually hope to "steal" money out of other peoples pockets by writing to their congressmen, in hoping to be given free HFCS...did any of them write their congressmen about the farm bill, pending financial help, or anything else when it came to the bee industry? Boy, some free HFCS got some all fired up. But where is the same energy with the CCD crisis.

A trickle here, and a trickle there, some money here and some money there, a donation here, and a donation there.....just enough to roll the ball just far enough...to get......NOWHERE!

Actually, it does. Their website says; "Haggen-Dazs, along with your help, will donate money in support of honey bee and sustainable pollination research programs at Penn State University and University of California at Davis."

It doesn't let us know how much they're giving but it clearly says that they are using a portion of their own funds. Seems to be a "win-win" to me.

Nice to see that other companies are startign to realize that they are also affected by the lack of honeybees and pollination.

At the banquet in Davis CA, where the initial announcement was made, Haagen Daz stated they were donating 250K to Davis and Penn State, nothing about that being given from a percentage of proceeds from sales or donations from the consuming public.
Hope the initial donation stands as well as a percentage of sales.
Either way, it is a good thing they are on the band wagon, the more the merrier, imo.
