I have 2 nuc hives comming this spring and was wondering what else I should have ready for them when they arrive?

I already have a 5 frame deep nuc with excluder and 5 frame medium to go on top of that. I also have a 2 medium hive body 10 frame hive. All with plasticell. why plasticell? because the carni's are already used to it, the nucs that is.

I was gonna order a deep box for the medium hive and a couple more med nuc boxes with frames.

Because they are overwintered nucs will I need to feed them? And what other boxes should I have ready? I Just want to be ready when they get here.;):D

The question is, are you going to leave them in the nuc box, or transfer them to a 8 or 10 frame hive? If you are going to transfer them, then really all you need is the hive into which you are going to move them. Feed them if they feel light, give pp if they arraive before your first pollen source blooms. I would leave them in the nuc, and add a second story for a couple weeks after you get them, and transfer them after it has warmed up alittle bit.:)

I overwintered a nuc in two four frame shallow nuc boxes. I put some syrup on them last Sunday. I'm will be adding pollen patties and a four frame deep nuc with frames of honey to it this weekend. In a few more weeks I'll set it up with a shallow on the bottom, deep in the middle with more frames of honey, another shallow of drawn comb over the deep, and another patty if it needs it. I'm also keeping the feeders full of syrup. I haven't given any of my other colonies any syrup yet, maybe this weekend. Since this colony was in such a small space I thought I'd try to get it going a little sooner.
