Does anyone know of a good DVD or video on setting up a hive and managing it for the year? Kelley has one but before I dump $22 on it I thought I would ask. We had an ice storm and lost power etc. Just finally got the computer back on with a generator. So back to learning about bees!!

"A year in the life of an Apiary" by Dr. Keith Delaplane, originally produced for RFD-TV.

There are 8 30-minute shows. It's well done and covers everything from assembling hives to extracting honey. The only (minor) criticism I have is that it's a bit dated with respect to Integrated Pest Mgmt (i.e., he recommends treating for disease as "standard procedure" as opposed to my thinking of "as needed").

I agree. This is how I first was introduced to beekeeping. In retrospect, the Pest treatment section seems to be the only dated part.
Excellent, comprehensive series and well worth the money.
But be sure to go to your local beek assoc meetings too.
