Just bottled my first attempt at homemade Ginger Ale.
I suppstuted honey for sugar.

Sounds so easy and it was. It should be ready in 3 days, I'll
let you know how it comes out.

Here's the recipe........ It was just too easy not to try. Root
beer is as easy and I've ordered some root beer extract.

Any others try this??

HOW COOL! I have poked around that website before, but somehow missed that one!
Would love to know if is more like a ginger beer (Name brand escapes me - not alcoholic), or more a Canada Dry version.
Will be interested to hear how it turns out!

Not sure if you're talking about Vernor's Ginger Ale?? It's by far
the best store bought I've had. Actually has that ginger "bite".
With slight after burn.

This home brew will develop a slight amount of alcohol. But you'd
have to drink 1 1/2 to 2 gallons to get the same buzz as 1 twelve
oz beer. Thats if you let it go too long.

Don't overlook this recipe:

I've made it many times and it is very good.

We used to make rootbeer when I was "younger". The only thing we had to watch out for was fermentation, too much and it blew the caps off the bottles:D. Don't know if you used any yeast, but if so, that is the one thing you don't want to happen.:D

I was on a Moscow Mule kick a couple years ago and the recipe calls for ginger beer. What I used (I looked it up) was Goya brand ginger beer. To me, it seems it has even more fresh ginger taste than the Vernor's.
My boyfriend kept drinking it and then my local supplier stopped carrying it. :(Thus ended my fascination with Moscow Mules.

Oh yes, yeast is used and the plastic bottles get VERY pressurized. I never had one blow, but can imagine the mess it would make, especially since I would put them next to the furnace in winter, for the fermentation process.

There will be a very slight bite to this root beer. You don't want to guzzle down this stuff or you will pay for it.

Thanks Barry........

Too often I forget about the rest of BeeSource since my bookmark
goes right to the forums. So much good stuff to be had.

And PJ...... Yep it has a small bit of yeast. Apparently the 2 liter
pop bottles work really well as they are designed for pressure in
mind.

Wonder if it is "legal" to sell this stuff at the farmers market
along with your other goodies??

I haven't drank ginger ale since I quit buying Jim Beam, many years ago. I do make the root beer now and then. I get my extract at Wal-Mart.

It is probably made in China, but I buy it there anyway. :p to Sundance :D
