I received my traps today to late to put them in. what results have you all had ? I Don't have a major beetle problem and hope to keep it that way.

I bought a few AJ's traps but haven't put them in yet. Have had West traps in all winter. Upon inspection last Saturday, I found 1 beetle in 4 hives. Pretty good considering I had hundreds of beetles in each hive in October. I hope AJ's traps do this well. They will be a lot less trouble.
Are you using an attractant in your traps to help bring in the bettles?
how many traps per hive are you using?
This idea sound real attractive to me, if I had a bettle problem. I am real interested in how effectively it works out.

The cost seems a little high, dosent anyone else think? Its just a plastic thingy, probably worth .05 cents to make???

Ian, if your question is for me, I don't use any attractant. West traps cover the bottom board and the bees wrestle the beetles to the floor, they fall through grooves and drown in mineral oil. The bees basically do all the work, but the traps are a pain to clean.
Yes, I think the AJ traps are overpriced and a bit flemsy. I have doubts about their durability when they get propolized in and you have to dig them out to clean them. I think the "ears" will break off and the little catch that holds the cover on is just waiting to break. Tom

A little pricey ($11.95)if you need a bunch, but they really seem to work.
