What are referrals?

In everyone's User Profile there is the word "Referrals" and a number after it. Mine and most, I've noticed, is "0" but some people have "1." What does this mean... what's a referral?

When someone joins the board, there is a field they can fill in to give the name of the member that referred them to the site.

I sold a few hives last year and referred the newbees to the site for answers to any of their questions. I haven't had any referrals either. Oh well....

Sorry your newbees aren't cooperating in this area and giving you credit! Next time you might want to spot 'em a five. If you would like, I could set up a challenge and give a prize to the top referrer each year! See if we can't get the membership up to 8000 a bit faster. :)
