Anybody done much checking in the snow banks to see what your girls look like at this point?
My son & I have gone thru about 200 in the past week or so.
We were very happy as to what we are finding.
Put a lot of candy boards on for protection.
Picked up 4 dead outs & stacked up 4 more due to small clusters.
Seems just like always for every smaller cluster you find one or two huge ones that that will more than offset the slow one.
We have so much ice under the snow it's dang tough to get around.
I just hate getting stuck with a 4 wheel drive.

Havnt checked my outdoor hives yet, but noticing my indoor hives to be faily active. I am having trouble keeping the temp down with my ventalation system. Not a whole lot of bee drop, the hives enterences are full with bees! Even my doubles,
Things look good so far.

Just curious, but is your snow fairly recent? We had a fair amount of snow here...but with last weeks warm spell, it's all but gone. Although tomorrow the forecast calls for more.

So far so good with my hives, including the summer NUC's.

No snow here, but I opened all of my home hives today. 19 alive and kicking, no deadouts. I put buckets on the lightest ones.

Mine were kinda light going into winter. So tomorrow we'll start checking and put some dry sugar on the light ones. No snow here just rain, followed by showers , then a little drizzle...

I checked mine out last Sunday. The snow from that week had finished melting off the day before. '

I'm batting 1.000 so far(8/8) but I think one is a goner pretty soon, and we've got below zero temps coming soon.

I'm really liking the sugar on the top bars!

So far so good. All hives (53) still look good. Lost 2 of my 11 small nucs so far. Still early though.

Checked all 10 hives yesterday. I knew one queenless hive was gone. I did find another dead out. Not sure of the cause. I put more dry sugar on the ones that had used some and closed them up. It was nice having this break in the weather.

Lost one out in front of the house. It was booming this summer but got robbed something fierce in the fall.

One out of two in Monte Sereno, one out of two in Burlingame, 15 out of thirty in San Mateo. Looks like last year. The only good thing, lots of comb for bait hives.:o
