plastic or not a good strong hive should not have a wax moth problem. if drawn comb is stored properly there shouldnt be much of a problem it all comes down to preventitive maintance

I will second that. A strong hive will demolish wax moth larve in about half a day. I store my combs without any paramoth and havent seen a problem with moths yet.

CSbees,
How do you store them? I am storing without paramoth or other chemicals and want to compare notes?

I run all my frames thru the freezer for 24 hours to kill off the WM eggs time consuming but works

I simply put them in my shed. I first, however, pick out any dark comb that the queen laid in and put it directly into the freezer to make nucs out of next spring. Other than keeping frames with any brood spots or pollen, this is all I do in the way of storing them. I hate the use of benzenes since they are cancer causers. I am following the storing instructions given by a beekeeper with approximately 40 years of experience. He has never had a problem with moths.

Sounds good. The frames that have pollen or brood spots are frozen once and removed or are they stored in the freezer all winter?
I did not have any brood or pollen in my honey supers, believe it or not. I am using Kelly's 7-11 (5.7mm cells I think...big) foundation for my honey supers and the queen never touched them and I don't use queen excluders! I use 4.9mm (small cell) in the brood chamber so 5.7 must seem big to the queens and they don't touch them. Big thanks to Micheal Bush for this suggestion. It worked great.
After letting the bees pick the comb clean, I stored mine so all supers are open to the air and some natural light (recommended by Ross Conrad, Natural BeeKeeping).
Any problems in the spring or early summer, prior to supering the hives?

Good video footage, John's got a lot of good YouTube videos, but I wouldn't want to be to owner of that hive. We've lost one hive with (not to) Wax Moth, but it was the SHB that really pushed the colony over. The Wax Moth came in later... but not that bad! I still use Wood and Wax, no plastic, and have no problem with Wax Moth, and my strong hives can take care of SHB pretty well.

I super here at the end of February, so temperatures are not really an issue. My bees are ready to maybe even get a little (maybe a super of red maple if I am lucky). I believe in getting the bees stimulated early, advice I recieved from a man here in east Tennessee who year before last came 1/2 a super from the Guiness World record for the most honey produced by a single hive. Get them stimulated early and get the supers on early and you can make some honey.

Newbie question about the wax moths.
So.... if you had wax moths and then you stored the frames in the freezer to kill everything, what do you do to the frames afterwards?
Do scrape everything off the foundation?
Do you give them a quick brush to try and not disturb the comb?
Do you replace the foundation with clean new foundation??
thanks,
Geoff
