Hello All!
I am new to the world of bee keeping and wanted to start last spring, but I had not ordered my bees in time -- so this spring is the one. I was just wondering about some information from anyone who has bees in the north country. I live about 2 hours south of Montreal, Canada, so it gets pretty darn cool during the winter months. Does anyone have recommendations as to what type of bees I should order, and also, from where should I order them...any local bee clubs/journals that are produced in the New England / upstate NY area? Thank you in adavance.

Get involved with a local group - they will be able to best answer your questions about where to get bees and how to keep them in your area.

Not sure how close they are to you, but here are two I know in New York. Chris supplies nucs and also holds classes. Eric, is a up and coming beekeeper who is now selling nucs made from his overwintered stock.

I have bees in Clinton County, NY, about 45 miles south of Montreal. You must be just north of Albany? You want to get in touch with Southern Adirondack Beekeepers Association (SABA). They have monthly meetings, a beekeeping seminar in March, and workshops during the summer months. Find them at:
www.adirondackbees.org
You can find all the help you need from them.

Good advice Michael. Queensbury is closer to Saratoga Springs, where SABA meets at the Co. Extension Office, then it is to Morrisville, where the Champlain Valley Beekeepers meet, at Dick Crawfords house. There is a club that meets near Warrensburg. I forget the name. maybe Warren Co. Co. Extension knows.
Kutik Nucs are available through Betterbee, if you order early enough or if there are cancelations. Betterbee is in Greenwich, NY.
The link that indypartridge posted has info on all three clubs that I mentioned.

ty for all of your information in the past. I took your advice Bjorn and had a class with Chris back in February for two days...he is truly an amazing guy...makes you think about a lot of things. By the way, I believe it is from you that I will be getting my nucs. I am getting two nucs from Chris, so I suppose I am actually getting therm from you. I can't wait!
