We NEVER EVER use chemicals or pesticides in our hives since our bees have been bred over generations to be ideally adapted to the Central New York environment. Our bees also build their own wax foundations to prevent wax contamination from being introduced into the hives (miticides currently used by most beekeepers chemically bind to wax molecules often contiminating commercially produced honeycomb foundation).
