I've met with my local shirt guy who does heat transfers and embroidery. We messed around today embroidering the logo on shirt material and finally got it right. Also had a cap embroidered that turned out really nice. I'll be getting him the artwork to have the transfer template made for doing T-shirts.
The logo is done and I've got a good local supplier to work with for these items. I plan to start out simple and basic and see how it goes from there. I also am going to favor quality products over the cheap stuff.

For what it's worth, this poll only lets you choose one item at a time.

I think I would also buy the cap, as well. FWIW, I think you should eventually offer apparel with bee-related comments (funny or otherwise) printed on them. These could have the Beesource logo on them also, or not.

ah, ratz! I was hoping for the logo at the top of this page with the B made into a bee. At least some kind of bee. :(
I'd take a shirt and a sweat anyway.

Yes, I still want a "If you see me running..." T-shirt!

Ditto for me. Why can't you develop the merchandise with a logo which at least includes a bee?
Suggestion: If you do caps, you might consider caps in different colors, and a cap which can be at least spot and hand washed - beeks are always around messy, sticky stuff. Toppers classic 2404 is a nice style - 100% cotton, not one of those brushed blends, and has a nice metal loop adjuster in the back (non-plastic!). Okay, I'm picky about hats... I like them so comfortable you forget you have them on.
Also, for this time of year and in spring, hoodies are nice. Gildan has some good quality, heavy weight cotton blend (80/20) with pouches in front, or zipped. Perfect for days when winter coats are not needed, but too cold for T's.

I'd probably start with the polo shirt. (Got plenty of hats already).

I did. Several in fact. What works on one medium doesn't always work on another. The trend today in logo design is "keep it simple." If you look at the top rated 200 logos, most use no graphics and simply create a unique style with text only. Color, font style and size is all that's used. I had to change the logo once we tried to get another style to reproduce well using embroidering. You can only get so much detail doing this. The bee logo I used for the forums would never make it. I moved away from a bee image cause it is very difficult to get it to look like a honeybee without it looking cartoonish, which I don't want.

All colors are available, but I am going to work with the merchandise my local guy uses to start with. I'm not going to start warehousing stuff or start using online companies that I have no control over.

I can get these also.
The embroidered products I can do piecemeal but the transfers require initial setup costs and an order of 25 minimum.

OK, I realize it's your baby, but. Many of us don't mind cartoonish bees, look at Barry Bee.
Now there is a thought, if Barkman can do a deal with the Bee Movie for the 2 oz honey, why couldn't BS do a deal too? There could be something there for BS operating funds.

I'd go for the cap. I'd like something with the logo and then maybe "www.beesource.com" on the back velcro area.
Personally I like the cartoonish bees. I think the ones that look more realistic don't look good in logos. Maybe you could poll us all and see what the general consensus is.
Barry, can you post a picture of what the logo would look like.

Here's a hat/shirt/mug idea:
"How Can 5,000 Beekeepers All Be Wrong?
Beesource.com"
Or, the even better version:
"How can 5,000 Beekeepers All Be Wrong?
Beesource.com, that's how!
Tee hee!

Barry. I dabbled in silk screening (back in the days of hand-cut stencils) and developed kind of an eye for single-color designs. What would you think of something like this? Refined of course, I did this at work in about 10 minutes with a Sharpie marker.

Dang it, why can't I get the image to show up here? I copied the [IMG] code...

Cool idea Barry! I'm in.
BTW I like Jim's (first) idea. I'm running out of ways to steer casual conversation with co-workers to beekeeping :D.

I'd say you have the gift of drawing, which I don't. Creating a good honeybee image is one thing, but then adapting it to a logo for a wide range of use is another. I don't like the use of black in bee images because it gives the impression and look of a hornet. Honeybees have very little black, mostly grades of brown and orange. That is why I think the move to simpler is better.

I'm with ya Barry. I would prefer it not be a cartoon bee as well. I would go for a sweatshirt, or silk boxers... That way my wife could enjoy the logo wear as well.

I have a friend who has a computerised embrodry machine. We used one of her stock bee's from her source disk and made a few modifications to create a few hats for me.
Here are a few pictures of one of the hats

It's great that Beesource will have some promotional items available and we should support that. My only suggestion is that tranfers look like what they are, a big plastic like thingy stuck on a shirt. This year's Betterbee shirt was just that and the transfer was big and yucky. A transfer is ok on a hat or sweatshirt, but on a tee, it feels sweaty in the summer and cold in the winter. Last years Betterbee was a silk screen of an old timer capturing a swarm. It was available in an earthy green color. I bought it and love it. If they had five colors to choose from I probably would have bought 5 shirts. If Beesource were to go with silkscreen, you could offer many shirt colors with the same screened logo and I'll be first in line to buy one.

I'm seriously looking into this. I agree, I much prefer silkscreen to a transfer.

What is the ETA on this?
Barry,
how does your embroiderer make the transfers?
You can get transfers that have been made by way of screen printing (made with either plastisol or waterbased inks) which should feel much different then vinyl transfers.
I have just started doing screen printing to add to my mothers embroidery & heat press business.
If you are interested in more info contact me, i'll help the best i can

Hi Deanna -
I will check into the transfer type. The shop is a very popular one and I know they don't go the cheap route. I've been holding off pursuing the items for sale until I had a handle on the site redesign. I will contact you when the ball is really moving ahead.
