Very interesting. I am not familiar with top bar hives. What do your neighbors think of your bees? Looks like you are pretty close.

They love that they come to pollinate their garden, and in general these bees are very easy going - so no problems there. No complaints about bees getting into the dogs' water bowl either.
I actually have the hive in our front yard, some of those pics show it very near a fence, that was just a storage spot. They are tucked against an east facing wall (morning sun, and shade from about 11am on), right next to my bedroom window. Its nice because I can watch them fly, and a hive full of bees is a pretty good break-in deterrent i imagine.
