I have a 16 year old beagle that always has to go out in the middle of the night. She wanted out at 4:30 this a.m. I let her out and was just standing on the deck. I put my hand on one of the chairs out there and a bee was there and stung me in the middle of my hand. I was wide awake then! What are the chances of that happening?

That's not "middle of the night"! :) I'm usually hitting the road about then for my morning commute.

Are you sure it was one of your girls? My last few stings have been from yellow jackets.

Yes, it was a honeybee. I bent down and looked to be sure.

Not all bees make it back to the hive. And some just go off to live the final day/hours away from the hive. So there are bees all around we don't normally "see".

Now if were talkin odds/chances...I'd say you could probably do that same thing for the other 364 days of the year and not have it happen again.

Of course using that chair after working the hive ans smearing honey reisdue all over the place may increase the odds.... ;)

About the same as me getting into my van, putting a hand on the steering wheel and getting stung. Hadn't moved bees in the van. No beekeeping equipment in the van at the moment. Bees are up in the mountains (Help! I'm beeless!) and if you told me I'd get stung I'd have asked "by what?". We're just lucky, I guess.
