Opened the top of one of my hives to prop inner cover open to help cool them down and heard a piping queen.

Lifted the top off and sure enough there she was.

Then she flew away!

I thought "that was strange", I remember seeing eggs last week when I looked in.

Oh well, maybe she will find her way back home!

Opened the hive next to that one and the girls went on me like a goose after a junebug! They were HOT!

Figured it may be queenless and she returned to the wrong hive.

So MAYBE her flying out of the first hive was a good thing, if she went to the second one.

Who knows? I will just wait and see what happens!

Just felt like telling someone, the wife looks at me strange when I tell her stuff like that.

Kind of like she is saying with her expression "And I really want to know this"?

I had a mated queen fly away on me yesterday while removing attendants from the queen cage. She came back about 30 seconds later and landed on my right shoulder. I finaly caught and placed her back in the cage. I've had numerous queens fly off on me this year, only to return a few moments later.

Yesterday must have been a good day for flying. I opened up about four hives trying to decide which one I wanted to unite with a queenless colony. I did not disturb them much, but as I was leaving I heard that sound. Yep she landed on a limb just out of reach with a handful of bees. Now I guess I have two queenless colonies.. Trouble is I do not know which hive she came out of. Maybe she will get homesick.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a wife that just gives me a blank stare when I talk about other girls with such excitement:)
